Dr. David Lechner was born in Billings, Montana, and graduated from Billings West High School in 1980. He graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana, in 1984 . He was accepted into medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle Washington and graduated in 1989. His residency was completed at the Spokane Family Medicine in Spokane, Washington.

He and his wife, Maura Kerry Lechner moved to Helena in 1992, where he joined the Family Health Clinic.

In 2000 David and Kerry had a son named Liam, who is the light of their lives.

Since living in Helena Dr. Lechner has served the community by being the Chairman of the Department of Family Practice, a board member for Westmont Home Health, President of Montana Academy of Family Practice, Education Chairman of MAFP, Team Physician for the Helena Ice Pirates, Healthy Communities Committee of St. Peter's Hospital, Credentials Committee for St. Peter's, and Chairman of the Board for Helena HealthCare, Inc.

His special interests include Fly Fishing, Fly tying, drift boating, dogs, landscaping, photography, and stunt kites.
